Ty Anderson: Kucherov won't report to camp without deal

Ty.

Would Tarasenko not be a fairly close comparison? Kucherov has been just a slight notch below. I would assume if Tarasenko got 7.5 for 8 coming out of his ELC that Kucherov should be 6.5 to 7 for the same term.

Tarasenko took a year longer to get to the NHL after being drafted coming out of the KHL but these are the 2 closest comparisons I can think of.

I'm a firm believer in bridge contracts if for no other reason than to lock these studs up even longer once signed to long term, 8 year deals, even if it meant giving Kucherov 5, 5.5 or even 6 on a 1 or 2 year deal. Even if in this particular case, it's just to push the cap issue down the road.

Here's a post I posted earlier today from Spectors Hockey Rumour chat board.

"Curious to see how Yzerman is solving this seasons cap issues. Callahan will be going on LTIR eventually providing some relief but why Yzerman signed Coburn when he did at 3 years for 3.7 per or locking up Killorn at 4.45 for 7 years when he was a pending RFA before locking up Kucherov seems very odd.

I appreciate Coburn is their #1 penalty killing Dman but really a luxury as he plays 6th on the depth slot in TOI/GP & doesn’t really play any other difficult minutes nor go up against the other teams best forwards at even strength.

The clock is ticking & TB has enough depth they can ride it out till a solution can be found but still seems like questionable player personnel decisions & asset management. Odd for Yzerman."

Tarasenko is probably the closest comparable, although his numbers are a little better than Kucherov's. He makes $7.5M/year, so I don't see any reason for Kucherov to take less than $7M.

Good analysis. Tough situation. But not a bad situation. Could trade him for good assets....

Anyone think the push down from yzerman on drouin was preplanning for his cap situation? Drouins numbers were decent in his previous stints and seemingly only needed some time to make some forgiven mistakes to break out. In the playoffs they had no choice to unleash him with stammer out.

Shrewd. But possible.

Flip could get traded. Not for full value. Other teams will have the leverage and at most will give up a 2nd and b prospect. He may get more if you wait till deadline. You may get nothing and it could burn you. The Callaghan LTIR will cover more than enough to sign him this offseason.

I think yzerman is saying to him "stammer just took 1.5-3.5 million paycut to help us win, if subban is a 9 million dollar defenseman, then so is hedman. We just got significant more savings there. Killorn reasonably took a little term to keep himself under 5mil. Yes you're a 7 million dollar player. Please take 6.4. Let's keep this window long. Let's create a market where our elite core is young and signed and larger than most other cores. Where every brad Richards and Campbell signs here for a year on cheap deals to fill out our roster.

Kucherov will come around. If not then it is his fault. He'll get traded for a comparable who will and that will be that.

I would say Forsberg is most comparable. Their stats are almost identical and I think same amount of time. If he wants $7 we can't afford that and keep a full squad the way we need it, how about trade his rights for Troubas rights and sign Trouba for $5m or less.

He is under contract to play hockey this season and get paid for it. If he would show up be a leader and have good start to the season he would potentially get more money.

I dont really read the blogs more like skim through them. Hes Russian and plays for the boltz i figured he was going to be a rfa and wanted to be resigned before the start of this seaason. Its a valid mistake given hes russian and the attitude of other young talented bolts players.

Dunno. They talked about having a physical presence in the bottom of the lineup but by all reports he's not making much of an impact in camp.
